Daisy is set in Amsterdam, which makes a nice change for a Korean film. The story is about a street painter (Jun Ji-Hyun) who gains the attraction of an Interpol cop and a hitman. What unfolds is a subtle love story with a few twists and the occasional bit of gun action. Some Korean films can develop in to over the top love epics, thankfully that's not the case for Daisy which has been kept well under control.
In some ways Daisy represents a lot of things that a Hollywood film would struggle to achieve. It focuses on getting the viewer closer to the characters emotions, which helps turn a simple story in to something quiet special. Naturally this is helped a lot by the cast, Jun Ji-Hyun who plays the central character has the amazing ability of just absorbing you in to the film.
Using Amsterdam as a location worked really well and made it feel more accessible for a western viewer. If you've been to Amsterdam before and don't recognise the main square in the film, it's because it's on the outskirts in a place called Harrlem.
Overall Daisy is one of the best Korean films I've seen, definitely worth watching.
